On the 15th of November, State of Flux Managing Director, Alan Day was in Cairo to speak at the United Nations ESCWA East Mediterranean Countries regional Seminar on Trade and Transportation Facilitation.
Alan was asked to talk to heads of state representatives from East Mediterranean countries on logistics and how logistics affects the purchasing professionals decision-making on buying from a particular country or not.
Alan made the speech educational, highlighting the implications of poor logistics and how this effects the levels of stock (and ultimately cost) need by purchasing organisations in order to counter the logistics inefficiencies. These were re-enforced by a number of regional examples of where poor logistics processes has lost organisations both revenue and customers.
Alan covered the regional difficulties for logistics operators such as:
- Border inspections
- Customs clearance
- Duty draw backs
- Safety
- Vehicle usage
- Tyres
- GPS guidance systems
- Fuel
Alan also spoke about the advancement of new technology, such as RFID and process based logistics systems such as Mobilize, again using a case study to highlight how these can improve logistics and logistics practices.
