Alan Day
Chairman and Founder

Alan is responsible for State of Flux’s major client accounts and developing its business outside of the UK, including sales of our pioneering Supplier Relationship Management System. He has almost 20 years' experience in procurement and supply chain best practice, and prior to founding State of Flux in 2004 held roles as a Director of Procurement and Supply Chain at Cable & Wireless and Director of Accenture’s Supply Chain European Centre of Excellence, where his clients included British Airways, Shell, Microsoft, BSkyB and Morgan Stanley. Alan started his supply chain career at Fisher & Paykel, the leading New Zealand-based manufacturer of domestic appliances.

David Hood
Chief Executive

David leads State of Flux’s UK business and is responsible for growing revenue across its three key service lines of strategic sourcing, contract management and supplier relationship management. He was previously the company’s Commercial Director and has been a member of its senior management team since 2007. A New Zealand qualified barrister and solicitor specialising in contract and commercial law, David has more than 15 years' experience working for large commercial law firms and other commercial organisations in New Zealand and the UK, where clients included Tyco, Monsanto, Westpac Bank and BP. He holds a PhD in law from the London School of Economics.

Mel Shutes
Executive Consultant

Mel leads on supplier relationship management (SRM) strategy and consulting for State of Flux. His career includes over 20 years in senior procurement and supply chain management roles with Ford, Fiat and Toyota, where he was Head of Component Purchasing, BAE Systems as Procurement Director responsible for strategy and development, and Barclays, where he headed up supplier development. Since his move into consultancy seven years ago, Mel has been responsible for both domestic and international projects, including the development of best-practice SRM, strategic sourcing and procurement transformation for clients in the financial services, information services, transport, mobile telecommunications and public sectors.

Dominic Hastings
Executive Consultant

Dominic has over 15 years’ international procurement experience in both the private and public sectors, specialising in strategic sourcing and SRM. Recent client projects include spend and capability reviews for two major care home companies, with subsequent implementation of recommendations; a team capability review for a major dairy organisation; and the introduction of SRM to the marketing category for a major high-street retailer. He has also led projects developing processes for the more effective utilisation of procurement staff for global oil and gas and tobacco companies. Prior to joining State of Flux in 2010, Dominic worked as an Account Director on the management team at buyingTeam, with responsibility for the financial and professional services sectors. 

Geraint John
Executive Consultant

Geraint leads marketing and knowledge development for State of Flux and was responsible for its annual SRM survey and report in 2010 and 2011. His client work is focused primarily on SRM and recent projects include conducting ‘Voice of the Supplier’ studies for global consumer goods and telecoms equipment companies; designing a relationship “health check” process for a large investment bank; and developing e-learning modules for global mobile phone and tobacco companies. Prior to joining State of Flux, Geraint spent more than 15 years in business magazine publishing and was the founding editor of CPO Agenda and editor-in-chief of Supply Management, published in association with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply.

John Newton
Executive Consultant

John is the Head of Learning and Development at State of Flux and is responsible for leading customer education and talent development programmes. A training professional with over 20 years’ experience in the field of adult learning and organisational development, he holds a Masters degree in education and is a fellow of the Institute of IT Training. Prior to joining State of Flux, John was the Global Sales Learning Director at NCR Corporation with worldwide responsibility for development of the sales and professional services functions. In this role he led the design, development and delivery of training programmes to support the deployment of NCR’s products and solutions. John has had articles published on training, coaching for sales performance and learning design and deployment methods, and has presented at many training and HR-related conferences throughout Europe.
